Sirène Reine Partie 3 Prévisualisation du Poster (Mermaid Queen Part 3- Post Preview)

2/28/2016

Hello lovelies!!! As promised, I have Mermaid Queen Part 3 (The Finale) for you. For those who don’t know what Mermaid Queen is, it is a mini short story trilogy that I created to add some flavor to two evening wear posts (one about a dress and the other about a clutch) that I created, and Mermaid Queen Part wraps up the fun. Instead of writing a simple finale for the Mermaid Queen series, I crafted it into a post preview with clues for some future posts!! The clues are in bold, and you can expect to read posts involving those things in the coming month(s).  For example, in my 2016 Blog Trailer, I showed my art portfolio and a card that said ‘Bridal Show’. I now have an art portfolio page, and my previous post was about my first bridal show. There are still hints in my blog trailer that have not been brought to life yet but are to come!

I have included Mermaid Queen Part 1 and 2 for those who have not read them or want to reread them, and part 3 is at the end. Enjoy!

Metallic dashed with a tone of nude. Every turn brings out a different color. Oh! How it glimmers! Is that black eye liner under her eyes or just pure mystery seeping from her soul through those clear brown spheres? Inked with beauty she stands tall. All other eyes turn as she walks. A different thought is held captive in each mind. How such a piece can be so simple yet so loud. As her voice expands, the crowd stands at attention to her ruby voice. Her body holds the dress, but her hands hold pearls encompassed in a clutch from the deepest depths of the blue sea. Here she is--your Mermaid Queen.

Mermaid Queen

Picture
Picture
We all know of her, but none of us know her--none except the one suited in silver. A gentleman in red whispers something in her ear. Her glitter dust leaves the banister glistening as he escorts her to the center of the ballroom court. He steps back and stands diagonally to her right. Her lips curl upward as she takes a breath to speak.

"Hello my fellow citizens of this beloved affair. Thank you for attending my special gathering. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to be your queen. I am not a fairy, so there will be no wish granting here. I can however show you a good time. The drinks are to my left, and the delicacies are by the veranda in the upper court. I shall hope you find your time satisfying.
Auckland, cue the music please."

His name is Auckland. The one suited in red I mean. He was the first appointed to the royal court and protects it with his life. Even more importantly, he protects the queen. No one outside her family shall see her without going through him first. Except for the one suited in silver of course.

Mermaid Queen Part 3-The Finale (Post Preview!)

We talk about him often, but none of us know his name—he gives out a different one each time he introduces himself. Though this ‘silly’ manner dissatisfies those around him, it keeps the air clean of any solid rumors. There are only three things certain about the one suited in silver: He showed up in the Queen’s life on the rainiest day of the year, he is talented, much like the Mermaid Queen, and he cares about her more than anything.

She wears a purple bracelet on her left wrist when he is in town, and she wears a gold and black bracelet on her right when he isn’t around. She displays the brightest smile when he surprises her on Fridays. They walk through the neighborhood as she plays her guitar while displaying her dressy and girly looks fit for the warm weather. From time to time she’s captured wearing sporty/workout looks despite the fact that she is not an athlete. Where in the world did she get that soft gray nail polish from?! Don’t get me started on those new earbuds. With one bud in her ear, the other in his, and their in-step skipping down the street, they seem to share a secret that resonates solely from the sound of the music.

The one suited in silver (whatever his mysterious name may be) and the Mermaid Queen have a relationship that no one could understand even if they tried. By the time you think you are getting to know them, they are out of your grasp once again. We all want a way into their lives, but no one gets in who isn’t true. It’s nice to want things, isn’t it?

Picture
Thank you lovelies! I hope you had fun reading the Mermaid Queen series. The short stories are fiction/non-fiction; there are realistic elements mixed in with imagination. Would you be interested in other posts like this from time to time? Which clue would you like revealed first?

Have a beautiful week,

Je Fais (I Do)

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of attending my first bridal show which was the 2016 Golden Isles Bridal Show, A Seaside Affair. The event was at the Jekyll Island Convention Center located in Jekyll Island, GA. My mom accompanied me, and we only paid $7 for our tickets (original price: $10) because a friend gave us a coupon code. With vendors spread throughout, fun music, hors d'oeuvres at every turn, and a live show displaying 10 of the latest bridal gowns all wrapped in a remarkably beautiful venue, we definitely got our money’s worth. I could attempt to recount to you my experiences in the two hours that I was there, or I can just give you the highlights which is what I’ll do.

I decided to show up in a white jacquard mini dress with blue flowers as I wanted to get into the wedding theme and fully immerse myself in the fun. I was not aware however, that this look would make me look like a future bride. I lost track of the amount of times I was asked, “Are you the bride?!” I can’t forget the other famous one: “When’s the wedding date?” Fun fact 1: I’m not currently engaged.  Fun fact 2: I’m 17. Nonetheless, I was told that I would be back soon, and I was given various cards and packages including a hotel package as “It’s not too early to start thinking” one woman told me.
Picture
The event was from 1 to 4pm, but we arrived around 12pm as the site said to come early. Since we had never been, we wanted to get a good parking spot and avoid a long wait in line. This proved pointless as they were not opening the doors until 1. I still had a blast with the coolest woman I know as we grabbed some lunch and chatted.
Picture
We were among the first 50 in the door, so we received free tickets to get specialty drinks in addition to the free samples throughout the event. Full from our lunch, we gave them away and meandered through this new world as we waited for the runway show which started at 3pm.

Thank you Vivid Events (www.vivid-event.com) for letting us have some fun with your display!
I had an amazing time in the main area of the venue, but the highlight of my day was when we wandered towards the back and I came across the set below. The designer and coordinator of the event, Emily Burton (www.emilyburtondesigns.com) , introduced herself to me, and I discovered that she blogs herself. She gave me the greatest gift at the event by allowing me (and my mom) to go backstage and see the dresses before the show. Here I discovered that two of the gowns were two pieces as I got to get up close and personal with them. Not only did I get to see these beauties pre-show, but I got to take pictures of them and touch them. The photos I got backstage are below.

Attending A Seaside Affair was a fabulous way to spend my Sunday afternoon, and I am so glad that I went.
What I learned from A Seaside Affair:

1) Bring two cameras. One for photos of the show, and the other for video.

2) I do not want a big wedding. If someone would like to take on the major planning for me at their expense, then I’d be more than happy to let them do so. I’m high maintenance and over the top, but I am not about extremely long engagements, stressful wedding planning, or spending a lot of money to entertain others when it’s supposed to be my day. A small union will suffice.

Picture
I’d like to give another thank you to Emily Burton for making my experience at A Seaside Affair more memorable than I could have imagined. The venue was incredible, and my mom and I both had a great time.

Flamber Mon Moto (Blaze My Moto)

2/21/2016

Mustard Seed. That's the name of the brand of the unbelievably perfect blush and black blazer/moto cropped jacket below. I recently got a gift card to Shoptiques, which is an online store where you can shop the latest fashions from various boutiques around the world from London to Miami, and it's where I ordered this jacket from. As I sifted through the mass of boutiques and brands intermingled together, I stumbled across a jacket that satisfied both portions of my style palette that craved a moto style jacket as well as a neat and ladylike blazer. My $25 gift card covered the cost of the jacket, the tax, and shipping. Since there was only one left to fit my measurements, I knew that I was destined to have this beloved token of soft meets silky polyester, so I claimed it and awaited for it to arrive at my door.
Picture
Picture
This particular jacket was sold by a boutique called: The Trunk Stylist, which is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. I got this jacket at a great deal--the price I paid was $14.99, and the original price was $39.99. Even after tax and shipping, I have a little extra change saved on my gift card.
Picture
The material of this garment is polyester. It has shoulder pads, but it is still a lightweight piece with a gentle amount of thickness, and it is comfortable. The outside is soft with a raised texture, and the inside has a satin feel.
Picture
Picture
The great thing about jackets is that they can be worn over and over again within very close increments of time. This piece is a cheat sheet for dressing up something as simple as a tank top by dolling it up with a cute clutch and heels. It's cozy enough to be worn to the movies. It's luxurious enough to be worn on a Monday morning or a Saturday night. The black color blocked sections provide the moto style along with the crop at the waist, and the soft, structured blush fabric holds together the blazer/business side of things.
Picture
Picture
Below is the inner lining that I mentioned above. It's quite beautiful.
Picture
Picture
It always brings me joy to add a new piece to my wardrobe that meets a style goal of mine. Shoptiques is a nice place if you want to escape the H&Ms and Forever 21s of the world (I love these stores by the way) for a short respite to dive into the unknown and support local shops or even those abroad. When it comes to shopping, I don't really do the whole shopping spree activity of going out and splurging on a bunch of pieces. Rather, I tend to seek selections here and there that tickle my senses or catch my eye. I like to spread the wealth out over time as it prevents burning through a fresh new wardrobe and allows gentle savoring of new and ripe items over a longer period. Sometimes, the coolest items come to me when I'm not looking.

Are you a boutique shopper?  If so, which are your favorites? If you've never shopped at a boutique, would you consider shopping from one?

Thank you lovelies,
Have a beautiful week.

Or et Roses (Gold and Roses)

I love things that give me a pleasant memory of the past. My sister once gave me this hand sanitizer from Bath & Body Works called Paris Amour. I have no idea when she gave it to me, but I wore it on a lanyard around my neck during the entirety of my trip to Europe during the summer of 2013. The highlight of using that hand sanitizer was when I was in Paris. I was standing right next to the Eiffel Tower when I looked down at the bottle, swaying from my neck and noticed the tower sketched upon the label and the pretty pink sweet gel stored beneath it thinking to myself: "Dreams really do come true." Just one look at that hand sanitizer can bring me back to that moment along with a wave of memories created in the other countries I visited.

This weekend I was granted with a piece of summer 2015. I received my very first subscription box to FabFitFun which is (in the most general terms) a seasonal subscription box of lifestyle items such as jewelry, food, accessories, gift cards, and a handful of other great quality products. I only spent $39.99 exactly on my first box plus free shipping (the original price is $49.99 but I had a $10 coupon), and the total retail value of my box was $340.95. I know. It is such an amazing bargain and completely worth the price. This is not a promotional post (I do not have a deal with FabFitFun, nor am I getting paid for this), but they were kind enough to give me a $10 off coupon for you if you're interested in joining.

One of the first items that I pulled out of my plushly wrapped kit was a 14 karat gold-dipped heart pendant with a 1 pt  black sapphire from a brand named WREN, whose site unfortunately seems to be shut down now. It is a beautiful rose gold dainty piece that can be worn with a  dressy outfit, such as slacks and a blouse or an evening gown. But, it can also be worn with something as simple as a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. I've been wearing it daily, and I'm quite pleased. It retails (or retailed) for $100. The necklace is from their Summer 15 collection, and it is like having a small piece of summer 2015 saved just for me! With it being gold dipped, there is no worry for the jewelry turning colors if taken care of properly. It's also lightweight which is always a plus for necklaces; I personally don't like having a heavy object weighing me down.

One of the best aspects about this necklace is that it was picked out for me, hand wrapped, and gifted to me in a box of other luxuries that surpassed the value of my money. The heart is a special thing, and I can feel the love heating within the necklace with most of the warmth coming from my own chest.

Thank you lovelies,

What's something that reminds you of the past?

Stay fabulous.

14 Morceaux de Mon Coeur Mode (14 Pieces of My Fashion Heart)

2/14/2016

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m sharing 14 pieces of my fashion heart with you. Discover them below.

1) My Cubic Zirconias

I have an average size pair of cubic zirconias that my mom got me for freshman homecoming, and I haven’t stopped wearing them since. I have plenty of other pairs of earrings that I could wear that are beautiful, but I am just too attached to my cubic zirconias! I do crawl out of my comfort zone sometimes and swap them for a sharper set of bobbles. I also love miniature pearl studs, but I lost my first pair, and my second pair broke after a year.

2) Oxford Heels

I have been obsessed with oxford heels since I was in elementary school, and I have yet to get a pair. It’s hard to find a pair that is reasonably priced, and when I do find a pair, there’s usually something else I feel inclined to buy first. I had a beautiful pair saved recently on Amazon, but they sold out. I love their vintage ladylike vibe. I’ll get a pair eventually.

3) Business/Evening Dresses

I love dresses--period. Except shift dresses.  Something about a classic dress fit for the office has a way of making one feel very official and all about business. That’s the effect it has on me at least. Evening dresses steal my heart because they are so versatile: they come in long, short, fitted, loose, and are made for anyone. Short, fitted evening dresses (and sometimes long, fitted) evening dresses are my choice because they can be worn to a black tie event such as an awards ceremony or to a party: a dress that has two talents in one? Yes please.

Picture

4) Body Art

Body art is a sweet friend of style as it can tie together a particular look or serve as jewelry. I have never had a henna tattoo, but they are pretty and perfect for anyone with dashes of boho in their heart. I have two tattoos that both have personal meaning to me that are noticeable and subtle at the same time; one is on my inner wrist and the other is under my collar bone. To me, my tattoos are truth, fashion, style, and art.  Body glitter is another avenue for body art if you like a little sparkle. I do!

5) Tank Tops
I stated very early on in a blog post that I love tank tops. Whether you refer to them as tank tops, camisoles, or spaghetti straps, I am referring to them universally. They are comfortable, affordable, lightweight, and serve multiple purposes. Tanks can be dressed up or down, worn to work out in, or even serve as a bra substitute if you want to ditch your traditional brassiere but still want some support. Sometimes I just grab a tank top, a light cardigan or shrug, heels (or flats), my black skinny jeans, and just go.

6)  My Black Skinny Jeans

I talk about my black skinny jeans all the time. They are the only jeans I need. I wore my first pair so often that the folds began to fade and one ripped open. I had them for two years though. I replaced them last year with a black pair of jeggings that my mom bought me (you rock mom), and they are perfect. Except for the fact that I have a strip of Krazy Glue on them from trying to repair a pair of old boots. Even better, I got glue all over the boots. The jeans are still kicking though.

7) Sunglasses

Sunglasses can dress up any outfit. I started wearing them my freshman year in high school, and my eyes have become so sensitive to sunlight that I can’t leave the house without them. This is actually a good thing because sunglasses do protect your eyes from the sun and can aid in preventing vision loss or eye problems because of their lovely shielding effect.

8) Gift Cards

Gift cards are special because they give me the freedom to buy what you want and are personalized gifts with thought behind them as they are usually tailored to a particular shop/store. I just got one in the mail yesterday!

Picture
Picture
Picture
9) Polyvore

As many of you know, I use Polyvore to create the collections on my Collections page. I also use Polyvore sometimes to show you items that I don’t have but make reference to. It’s an amazing website and resource for all things fashion, and it’s a fun community as well. I could get lost for hours on the site if I had the time. But, I’d most likely get a headache from the computer light so that wouldn’t happen.

10) Fashion Shows

Fashion shows curate some of the best of fashion and style into a display of excellence saturated with lights, music, and beauty. One of the best things about labels such as Versace is that they plug their live fashion shows to their website so you can watch from home!

11) Inspiration

All of us are inspired by something that influences the way we dress. Even if your inspiration is not caring what you wear at all, it still serves as inspiration. Some of the most intriguing forms of inspiration come from food, nature, art, music, and movies. Mark by Marc Jacobs featured an Alice and Wonderland collection last fall.

12) Anything Metallic Or Shiny

Metallic and shiny pieces are both futuristic and vintage. If it’s got sequins and/or looks like different shades when it turns, it gets an A on my list.

Picture
Picture
13) Seventeen Magazine

I am not subscribed to Seventeen, but it is special to me; when I was younger, my sister (who is ten years older) was subscribed, and she passed her 20+ issues off to me at some age that I cannot remember when she deemed me old enough to read them. I enjoy aspects of Seventeen such as their various recommendations of stores/products, and their website is fun too; it’s a great place for general knowledge of topics and has plenty of fun reads.

14) Sales/Clearance

A good deal is a good deal. What more can I say?

Picture
Thank you lovelies,

I hope you have a wonderful day and a beautiful week.

Paradis Hivernal (Winter Paradise)

2/10/2016

The water was pink, and the sun shone a shade of lavender mixed with amethyst dashed with punch and peach. I sipped my almond joy milkshake as the creamy sand blended with the fruit colored water, and my Ed Sheeran album played on repeat. I fished Breaking Dawn out of my woven satchel (as it's the only book out of the series I haven't read) and curled up in my crimson colored blanket to bask under the blended view of my atmosphere and the warmth stored within my cabana. As I began to read, I was woken up to reality; it was Saturday evening, I was not in paradise on an island, and school was still in session--it was only February.

That was last Saturday.

I may be freezing cold, but I've got a case of summer fever. Fall is my thing, but summer and I have a cool relationship too. I love the warmth of summer days and nights, but most importantly, I love the freedom. It's still winter, and it isn't quite beach weather yet, but it doesn't mean you can't dress like it. For those of you craving some summer mixed with a cup of paradise, I have created a summer look for you that is designed for winter. It's called: Winter Paradise.

Picture
For this look, I slid into my white chenille knit cardigan from JCPenney, a tank top from Old Navy, a pair of khaki skinny pants from Belk, and my Qupid denim heels ordered from Amazon. With the sandy base of my tank top and pants, the hint of blue with my shoes, and my white cardigan, I have a symbolic combination of water, sand, and snow. What more could you ask for of a winter paradise?
Picture
Assembling accessories, I matched my white sunglasses from the Dollar Tree, a crocheted sand colored scarf with white trim created by me, a woven belt borrowed from a dress in my closet, a woven satchel crocheted by my sister, and a woven bag gifted to me from my sister. I intended to show you a close up of my necklace that a friend gave me in the 6th grade (it is a series of colored sea turtles), but it was freezing outside. Seriously. It may have not been scientifically freezing, but the waves in the back were raging, and I felt like the wind was going to take me away any second. To add to the natural special effects, the sky started turning purple. I was basically in an episode of Storm Chasers.
Picture
The purse below is the ideal image of summer: comfortable footwear, palm trees, island beverages, sunglasses, swimsuits, and relaxation. Even better: it can be taken on the go.
Picture
Picture
Powder blue heels give the outfit the feel of summer but keep it wintery with an arctic aura.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
You can have the best of both worlds. Combine winter and summer in a cozy look to keep you warm through the frost and snow until you're falling asleep beneath the hot summer stars.

Are you craving summer yet?

Thank you lovelies,
Stay fabulous.

10 Heel Traiter Disjoncteurs (10 Heel Deal Breakers)

2/7/2016

Love at first sight. Ohhh yes. They are the shoes you've seen everywhere and always wanted. They're the shoes that no one else has. They're the shoes that you can't fathom leaving behind. They are the shoes where the price tag makes you scream in excitement or cringe in disbelief. Everything is perfect about them. Except...
Picture
There will come a time in your life young ones where you will be joined with a pair of shoes that drive you crazy in all the right ways but are simply not for you--whether they're too big, too tight, or something else unfortunate, they simply need to be left in solitude until their next love awaits them. Though these circumstances can happen with any shoe, the pain of separation in my eyes is most prevalent with high heels. Whether you've raked up a sheen pair yourself knowing that they weren't going to do you any good or known someone who has, I'd like to share with you 10 of my heel deal breakers--10 heel situations where you should just leave those pretty pumps behind for your benefit.
1) Peep Toes
Peep toe shoes are amazing, but they can be tricky. The main way to tell if there is something wrong with your peep toe pair is to put them on and start walking. Do your feet slide forward? Are your toes hanging off? Is the peep too tight? Are your feet slipping out? If the answer is yes to ANY of these, then the peeps are a no no. I have two pair of peep toes which you can see in the photos above and below. The red ones are amazing; they feel like flats, provide support and cushioning, and I have no toe slippage, shoving, or any issues for that matter. I walked in the store and around my entire house, and my feet sat in place just fine. They are Liz Claiborne's that I got on sale from JCPenney and paid $16 dollars for! They were originally $60, the sale price was $40, a sweet lady from our neighborhood who works there got me a coupon that took them from $40 to $30, and my mom and I agreed to go half as I did some personal styling for her. After not shopping for an entire month, it was a nice treat. I got the other pair from Goodwill for $5, and although they are adorable, they commit the toe violation of the peep toes. I may try jell inserts to stop the sliding.

Picture
Picture
2) Too Arched
Long story short: If you feel like your ankle could break with the slightest movement, it's a no no. Really high heels are a phenomenal asset, but there is a safe way to do it. When you want to rock them nice and high, opt for heels with platforms. I have two pairs of heels that are both 5 and 1/2 inches, but they both have an 1 inch + platform for support. My green pair (below) also have a thick heel for additional support. The other pair (which are baby blue denim), have a skinny heel but are accompanied by a strap for a Mary Jane look for support.

3) Heel Bending
Often with heels (especially stilettos), the heel tends to be very skinny. Usually the higher the shoe, the less sturdy the heel is (based on personal experience). If a stiletto has a very skinny heel, it is best to test the strength by pressing against the heel. Does it move? Does it bend? Did it bend but you're pretending like it didn't? Leave them there. These type of shoes are very dangerous and are not worth any injury regardless of their gorgeous appearance.

4) General Fit
How do the heels generally fit you? Do they sculpt to your Achilles perfectly? Is there a smidge of room?
The ideal heel is the one that molds onto your foot perfectly. Your foot slides right in and sticks, but is not crushed at the front or back. A bit of room in the back is okay as long as your feet aren't slipping out. The less extra space, the better; when your feet slip out, you are putting more strain on your calves than need be to hold them up, you are probably killing your toes, and you are simply putting yourself at risk. Even if your feet are not falling out, you may want to invest in heel inserts for a tighter fit for overall comfort. I have a few pairs that I am going to get inserts for because of that reason.

Picture
5) Dull
Are they dull, or are they shiny?
Dull = No. Never. It's just not cute, and they will just get more dull over time.
Shiny =Yes. The end.

6) Soft Insoles
What I'm referring to are insoles that are soft: they have a suede or suede like feel or some other soft material.  Shoes with soft insoles are wonderful, but they require upkeep. If you will be bothered by a lasting dirt footprint, soft insoles are probably not your thing.

They're not your thing.

7) Too Pointy

Pointy shoes, "I'm sassy, but I'm classy." Pointy shoes are sassy and classy, but they are not for everyone. If the point is squeezing your toe, then it may be best to steer clear of pointy shoes. Opting for a wider point may be an alternative that works for you.

8) Not Enough Pump

I am calling out the shoes below. They are hot, and really popular at the moment, but they are not the best heels for your feet. Though they are lower to the ground and provide a bit of strappage, they have no support in the sole. None! The arch with no support puts unnecessary strain on not only your calves but also your back! They fit into the same boat as stilettos with no pump. A change as simple as adding 1/2 inch of a platform to these babes will give you a little help. If you are going to snag these "profile shoes" as my mom calls them, get a pair with at least 1/2 inch platform.
Charlotte Russe Single Sole Ankle Strap Heels

Charlotte Russe Single Sole Ankle Strap Heels (see more stiletto heel shoes)
Above photo is from Polyvore.
9) Not Enough Strappage
The majority of heels that I have seen that lack enough straps mimic the style above but are in chunky heel form. Chunky heels are phenomenal (and we can discuss all of their wonders some other time), but if their straps are as skinny as the straps in the shoes above, then they aren't too safe. Thicker, chunkier heels need thicker, chunkier straps. It's as simple as that.

10) They Cause Blisters
Though you may not get a blister from walking around in the store, you may be in trouble once you leave if they are rubbing your heels, making them red, and/or causing pain. If you have to wear band-aids with them, they do not need to be bought...or kept.

Picture
You may have struggled finding a quality pair of shoes, but don't fear; hope is out there.
Use these tips to help you sort out your current array of shoes or use them when purchasing new shoes.

Thank you lovelies,
Have a beautiful week.

Hello lovelies!!! As we all know, Valentine's Day is right around the corner (in two Sundays to be exact). I know this holiday is considered taboo for many, but I believe most of us would be lying if we said we didn't enjoy gifts or some cheer on this rosy day. For a little early Valentine's Day fun, I created a low key lookbook of three Valentine's Day date inspiration looks. They're not over the top dressy as the majority of people on Valentine's Day do not get overly dressed even if they have a date, but they're cute and neat looks if you happen to be going out somewhere on this day. Whether you have a date or just want to treat yourself somewhere in town, you can look amazing and adorable doing so, and I hope this lookbook gives you some ideas for a look that you can feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful in!
