Mon Inspiration de Mode (My Fashion Inspiration)

Sometimes I can just go in my closet and whip out something really cute to wear. Other times I need a little help. When I am in need of clothing assistance, I go to my fashion inspiration. There's plenty of things that inspire my outfits from day to day, but there are five main categories that I look to (in no particular order).

#1. Magazines

Fashion magazines provide enormous amounts of inspiration as they list various brands, trends, and outfits to choose from. Regarding fashion magazines, my favorites are People Style Watch, Seventeen, Vogue, and Elle. People Style Watch and Seventeen are full of outfits worn by celebrities. Although the outfits are worn by celebrities, many of them can be worn anywhere, and there are affordable clothing stores listed to get replicas of the clothing items and sometimes the actual item. I usually look at Vogue for more elegant ensembles and Elle for dressy and casual creations.

#2. Music

I love love love music. I listen to music almost every day, I sing along, and I make up choreography. I use music as inspiration because I use the songs to create outfits. If I'm listening to a pop song that's loud and bubbly, I'll pick out clothing that's bright and colorful with some girly accessories. If I'm listening to a song that's a bit darker, I may pick out clothing that's darker or clothing of more neutral tones with some edgy accessories.

#3. Books

I love reading books. My favorite genre is fantasy. While reading some of my favorite fantasy books, I've found new ways to wear my clothing. The authors are so descriptive that I feel as if I can actually see the outfits that they describe for the characters. The book series in the photo below is the Hush Hush saga by Becca Fitzpatrick. The main character in the book is a teen around 17 years old or so, and her wardrobe is amazing. The books are not fashion books, but the author provides some of the most unique, stylish, and versatile outfits that I have seen--or read.

#4. Scents

I use more natural body products, but I still enjoy the smell of Bath & Body Works collections! The two lotions in the picture below are from Bath & Body Works, and they are fashion muses as well. The smaller bottle on the right may inspire me to wear all blue. The first thing that I notice on the larger bottle to the left is the word velvet. I may run with this word and get a red velvet dress and match it with some pink heels because the word velvet is red, and the lotion is pink.

#5. Nature

Nature is one of the many but special things that I find calming. Spending time at a beach could lead to my next outfit being a tan/sandy color with some simple jewelry like pearl earrings because those things remind me of the beach. Spending time near some trees on a cloudy day could lead to an outfit primarily of darker colors, maybe some green velvet, and boho jewelry because those things remind me of the forest.

I love coming up with outfits when I've been inspired by something that I find intriguing. Whether the influence be a holiday or a food item, they both give me options to discover something new to wear. What is your fashion inspiration?
