While shopping for dresses lately, there have been a number of factors that I began to consider.
st- The Price. Usually, if a dress is above $30, I'm not even gonna consider it. I may look at it, but I probably won't buy it with my own money. When picking out dresses, it's really good to have a budget in mind so that you don't get sidetracked. Also, when ordering online, you can browse different sites to see if other places have the same or a similar dress that you're looking for.
nd- The Style. As I mentioned in a previous post, I rarely look good in long dresses. I have hated every maxi dress that I have tried and therefore avoid them!! There is only one dress that I own that goes past my ankles, and that is a dress that I've made to wear to homecoming this year (which I will share with you guys in a later post)! Since I am short ( 5'5"), petite, and have a somewhat athletic build, I find dresses that are fitted around the waist with a short poof and fitted dresses (midi or mini) most flattering. I also like gathered and layered dresses. I've found that tall gals rock maxi dresses so well because it enhances their frame while it does not always have the same effect for shorter gals.
rd- The Material I have a love for microfiber and spandex. These materials are so soft and are ideal with semi-formfitting and formfitting dresses. My newest interest is jacquard fabric--the look is so elegant and beautiful and adds a vintage twist in the most flattering way! Chiffon, velvet, and suede appeal to me as well. To find the best material for you in regards to a dress, find one that is both comfortable and special to you. No matter how cute it is, if it itches or is just plain stiff, its best to leave it where it is.
th- The Color My favorite color is blue, but blue clothing rarely appeals to me. At a point in time, I was partial to pink in clothing. As much as I love pink, I've found that I am compatible with many colors and have opened my closet up to those colors. In regards to dresses, I don't find myself deliberately seeking a particular color (though I have been looking for a simple white dress). The color just has to be eye-catching to me, and it needs to be something that I could see myself wearing.
th- The Embellishments I like simplicity. I love adornment. When shopping for dresses, I am drawn to ones with detail. The more detail the better. My favorites are runway inspired dresses as many of them are detailed and intricate with crazy and fun patterns such as those that mirror landscapes. Ask yourself what you like. Is it patterns? Solid colors? Once you've figured that out, you will have a basis of what you're looking for, and you can look in places that suit your choice best (you can contact me at anytime through my Contact page, Twitter, Instagram, or Polyvore for styling/shopping/clothing/outfit advice. I'd be happy to help!!!).
th- The Overall Quality Although this is listed sixth, this is my make it or break it in regards to dresses and any other clothing item for that matter. If I find a dress for $5 or so at the store, and it has a thread out of place, I'll still purchase it if everything else is up to par. Since I sew as well, I'm willing to fix small issues. If the material of a dress feels like it'll rip if I sit the wrong way, then I will leave it behind. When a dress looks like a 10 overall and looks like it will last a long time, then I will welcome it to my wardrobe.
